The Tech Tree in Modulus Factory Automation is your progression menu, unlocked and advanced using Data Shards earned from Neural Monuments. It is divided into several branches covering island expansion, building unlocks, machine speed upgrades, and logistics tools.

Spending Data Shards wisely in the early Tech Tree is the single biggest variable in how quickly your factory can scale. This guide covers the recommended unlock order for Modulus Factory Automation's Tech Tree to maximise your factory's growth rate.

Based on community consensus and optimal factory progression in Modulus Factory Automation:

Priority 1 — Island 2 Access (50–100 Shards) More land and more Poly Rock nodes. Nothing limits your factory's growth more than space and raw material throughput. Unlock the second island as your first major Tech Tree investment.

Priority 2 — Sorter Unlock (30 Shards) Once you have multiple product lines running, contamination becomes a constant problem. The Sorter is the solution and should be unlocked before you need it — because by the time you need it, you already have a contamination crisis.

Priority 3 — Warehouse Unlock (40 Shards) Buffer capacity prevents Monument stalls. A Warehouse before your Monument delivery point is a standard fixture in every well-engineered Modulus factory. Unlock it early, place it immediately.

Priority 4 — Drone Hub Unlock (150 Shards) Inter-island logistics. This is a significant investment but becomes mandatory for Tier 2+ Monument production. Save Data Shards from your first Monument completions specifically for this unlock.

Priority 5 — Machine Speed Upgrades (variable) After logistics infrastructure is in place, machine speed upgrades increase the throughput of Cutters, Painters, Stampers, and Assemblers. Start with Cutter and Stamper upgrades — these are typically the bottleneck machines.
